Scouting Report: Steve Slaton, RB, West Virginia
Steve Slaton is a good running back, but he baffles me. The junior from West Virginia is definitely going to make it on some team—he has the skills—but on the flip side, leaving college one year early was a mistake in my mind. Slaton has good vision and very good initial burst, along with the acceleration needed to break away once he is in the open field. Along with that he is also an excellent receiver and can be a return man. That makes him to any scout watching a triple threat for his team. However, the scouts will also have noticed that in each of the last two years Steve Slaton has been injured.
Scouting Report
Pros: Has the patience to wait for the play to develop, has the speed to turn any play into a touchdown and he is elusive in the open field.
Cons: Needs to bulk up some and needs to adjust to pro formations.
Overall: He might be one of the top three running backs taken if he impresses at the combine and pro days. If he does not, then he will be a second round pick. Either way, he will last in the NFL.
