--QB Patrick White will get a Heisman Trophy push from the sports information office at WVU, but it won't be a full-fledged campaign. There will be an informational website available and they will do their best to keep the national publicity constant. White did not have a good spring throwing the ball until the spring game, when he hit 12 of 16 passes for 133 yards and a touchdown. That will improve as he gets his timing down in a new offense put in by coordinator Jeff Mullen.
SPRING MOVERS:
TE Will Johnson -- Looked as if he might become a force in the passing game during the spring. Moved from wide receiver, he must put on about 10 to 25 pounds from his 235, but the redshirt freshman was the most consistent receiver the team had. He also showed a willingness to carry out the blocking assignments but he has to gain weight and strength to deal with linebackers.
LB J.T. Thomas -- Thomas was suspended early last season from the team when he and cornerback Ellis Langster were arrested for stealing a television during a party. They avoided jail time by entering a diversion program and returned to play well last year. Thomas showed tremendous speed as he took over the weak-side linebacking chores.
LB Mortty Ivy -- Started last year when Thomas was suspended and proved himself to be a solid player, often overlooked even though he finished second on the team in tackles. This spring Ivy was flying all over the place as the strong-side linebacker, replacing Marc Magro. His speed and strength make him a potential all-Big East performer.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "It's all about chemistry. We have great plays. We have great players -- tremendous players. We've got great coaches. But right now the most important thing in Mountaineer football is chemistry. The bonding, the brotherhood, the association with classy young men doing the right thing every single time."
-- WVU head coach Bill Stewart following the Blue-Gold spring game.
