The Texans continue to experiment with various combinations at safety, with Nick Ferguson and Eugene Wilson getting more playing time in Week Eight and Will Demps — who played so well at times in 2007 — being relegated to a reserve role for the time being. “We like that combination of those two guys (Ferguson and Wilson) just because of how much football they’ve played and how smart they are,”

The feeling in Tennessee is that the Titans are erring on the side of caution with DE Kyle Vanden Bosch’s groin injury, in the hope that it will not be a season-long issue. Vanden Bosch, who suffered the injury in Week Five, played only a few snaps in Week Seven at Kansas City before leaving the game and was inactive in Week Eight vs. Indianapolis.
A source close to the Jaguars says that free-agent acquisition CB Drayton Florence has had difficulty adjusting to the zone schemes the defense has been employing. Florence was brought in to play the man-coverage schemes that defensive coordinator Gregg Williams was expected to run, but the defense’s inability to generate a consistent pass rush has nixed those plans.
