2007 Fantasy College RB Rankings
Fire up John Denver?s Take Me Home Country Roads Mountaineer fans. Junior back Steve Slaton tops our 2007 preseason running back rankings. Despite a nagging wrist injury, Steve Slaton finished with an average of 134.2 yards per game and totaled a solid 16 rushing touchdowns. In consideration with the missed action due to the wrist injury, Steve Slaton may have topped 20 touchdowns and would?ve came close to 1900 yards. Needless to say, Rich Rodriguez?s spread attack should be working once again in 2007 and the Mountaineers will be in national title contention. With the wrist injury away, it?s Steve Slaton time in Morgantown. Check inside for our running back rankings, as well as our sleeper and bust pick.
Sleeper: Kealoha Pilares, Hawaii
If you look at our rankings, you might see a shock at number eleven. Hawaii?s inexperienced back Kealoha Pilares checks in at that position, but he?s the perfect type of back to gamble on. Pilares has great hands and speed, as well as knowledge of the Warrior offense. Considering Pilares has picked up the blocking schemes well and performed well in scrimmages, he should end up as the starting running back for the Warriors. He?s a good sleeper pick, but if he wins the job, he is very valuable in this scoring system ? especially with receptions and receiving yards.
Bust: Shannon Woods, Texas Tech
Every fantasy owner should know Texas Tech Mike Leach?s philosophy of putting players in the doghouse in hopes of building them back up. Well, Woods is in serious danger of losing his starting spot this year and although he?s the most talented back in Lubbock, it?s something worth monitoring this offseason. If Woods continues to stay listed as the third team tailback, then adjust your fantasy rankings accordingly and upgrade Kobey Lewis. We think Woods will bounce back and in this scoring system, he?s worth a top five to ten pick.
Just missing the cut: Matt Asiata, Utah; Leon Patton, Kansas State; Chris Bullock, Bowling Green; Lance Ball, Maryland; Marcus Thomas, UTEP; Keiland Williams, LSU; Terry Grant, Alabama; DeMyron Martin, Alabama; Javon Ringer, Michigan State; Mike Ford, USF; Chad Hall, Air Force; Jeremiah Johnson, Oregon
