COL FB: West Virginia 31, Rutgers 3
PISCATAWAY, N.J., Oct. 27 Steve Slaton rushed for three touchdowns Saturday afternoon as No. 6 West Virginia clobbered Rutgers, 31-3.
The all-America candidate gained 72 yards on 16 attempts and added a 51-yard pass reception in the third quarter.
Quarterback Pat White ran for one touchdown on 22 attempts for 156 yards, and completed 10 of 16 passes for another 144 yards as the Mountaineers (7-1, 2-1 Big East) beat the Scarlet Knights (5-3, 2-2) for the 13th straight time.
They increased their overall winning streak to three in a row after a 17-3 halftime advantage when place-kicker Pat McAfee drilled a 42-yard field goal as time expired in the second quarter.
Rutgers' only points came on Jeremy Ito's 39-yard second quarter field goal.
Running back Ray Rice rushed for 142 yards on 30 carries, but quarterback Mike Teel threw for 128 yards on just 14-for-30 passing with two interceptions.
His receivers dropped a total of seven throws.
